Orienteering at Wendover Woods
Sat 13 Sep 2014
Run, jog or just walk - this is a fun and exciting introduction to orienteering. It's organised by Thames Valley Orienteering Club and is ideal for all ages and abilities - families, children and runners too. An orienteering race does not follow a set route. Instead you have to visit a series of checkpoints and register each one with an electronic timing chip. The checkpoints may be along paths, streams or earth banks in the woods. The challenge is to decide what you think the quickest route will be between the checkpoints and then to find your own way along that route using a special orienteering map. There will be several courses to choose from, ranging from 1km for children up to 5km for runners. Help will also be available. Registration and parking will be in the Forestry Commission car park in the centre of the woods, by the café. Just come along any time between 10am and 11.30am.
