As he announced the formation of a new Interim Operating Committee (IOC) to begin the process of rejuvenating the English Association for Snooker and Billiards, Director Simon Smith said: “In an attempt to make the Association open and transparent, the establishment of this Committee will provide strategies to reassure the membership generally that the business is being conducted in a proper manner.”
At a Board meeting held at Reardon’s, Stoke on Trent, on 28 July, 2005 serious concerns were voiced at the apparent poor financial standing of an Association that had been reported completely solvent earlier in the year.
A spokesman for World Snooker said: “We are conscious of the importance of the EASB in the overall structure of snooker. We are considering ways in which we may be able to co-operate with the body to assist its progress from its current position as we would any other National Governing Body in this situation.”
A Members’ Forum will be planned for late September or early October, to be held at Sheffield’s English Institute of Sport. All members will be invited, together with parents and coaches of junior members, and the interim structure will be fully explained. Thereafter, members will be invited to make constructive comments.
Smith added that he hoped to be in a position to call an AGM in the New Year.
