BLACKPOOL ICE DANCE CLUB 60th ANNIVERSARY GALA

On Saturday 27th of January, Blackpool Ice Dance Club celebrated it's 60th year with a spectacular Gala. The Club was formed in September 1946 and has been affiliated to NISA(formerly NSA)throughout that period. The Club has seen many changes over the years but has managed to adapt. Currently the Club operates at two venues, firstly The Blackpool Ice Twirlers skate at the Clubs "spiritual" home at Blackpool, and secondly the Club's adult members skate weekly at Blackburn, taking an active roll in the northern RIDL. The Gala was a huge success; the Blackpool Pleasure Beach Arena was at least 95% full with members of the public queuing up nearly two hours before the show! There were 45 skaters in total performing solo programmes, duets, show numbers and ice dance. We had guest skaters from Blackburn and Deeside also taking part. The highlight of the evening was a free dance routine put together especially for the night by Louise Walden and Owen Edward. Also the Blackpool Ice Twirlers premiered their new routine based on the music of La Nouba from Cirque de Sole. The evening was enjoyed by the audience and those taking part and what made the Gala complete was the spectacular lighting. This was provided by Stageworks and to them we offer our sincere thanks.
