Bucks Sport ran another successful ‘Young Coaches Conference’ on Wednesday 28th February at Stoke Mandeville Stadium in Aylesbury.  The guest of honour Nick Buckfield – a former GB Olympic Pole Vaulter and British record holder presented an inspiring keynote opening speech as well as running a multi-skills workshop for the young coaches.

The conference, which has been running annually since 2002 aims to recruit and support youngsters into sports leadership and coaching.

During the day 175 students from 21 schools across the county took part in Introductory coaching sessions or Young Leaders awards in various different sports (e.g. athletics, badminton, golf, netball, rugby and soccer) and coaching related topics (e.g. multi-skills).

There were a variety of sports represented, and students chose from a selection of 8 leadership awards in the following subjects:, multi-skills sessions and ‘How to coach children in Sport’.

After the conference and it is hoped that the youngsters will utilize their new skills in sports clubs and organisations to gain valuable experience and eventually move on to the next stage of coaching.

The day was deemed a great success by the students and the staff of Bucks Sport with positive feedback from everyone involved in the day.
