Ake strike earns TeamBath win at Weston
27th December 2008A solo effort from Takumi Ake was enough to earn TeamBath FC a 1-0 win over Weston-super-Mare this afternoon (Friday).
Ake cut inside from the left flank before drilling an effort inside Weston keeper Ryan Northmore’s post with virtually the last kick of the first half.
It means the University of Bath side have made it two wins from two so far over the festive period.
Ake’s goal was just reward for TeamBath’s ambition against the Seagulls.
Josh Llewellyn’s effort following good work from Matt Cooper rebounded off a Weston defender midway through the first half, while Marc Canham’s 20-yard shot on 32 minutes went just wide of the upright.
Darren Chitty was called on to make two terrific saves in the opening period – first defying Marc McGregor from close range on 40 minutes and then tipping Matt Lock’s defensive header over the bar five minutes later.
Llewellyn had a good shout for a penalty turned down just two minutes after the break after he appeared to be tripped in the box by Tom Parrinello.
Weston featured two former TeamBath players in their ranks – keeper Ryan Northmore and defender Craig Rand.
TeamBath climb a place to fifth following their 1-0 win at Weston. They play Weston-super-Mare again at Twerton Park in a 3pm kick-off on New Year’s Day.
