It was a busy weekend for two of England’s top players on the professional tour. Here’s a roundup of the best action.
Perth- Englishman Ben Ford made the most of his flying visit to Australia when he beat Mike Corren to win the City of Perth International squash title in Perth. The top-seeded 33-year-old from London beat Australian Corren, the second seed, in the final of the PSA World Tour Satellite event 11-7, 9-11, 11-7, 13-11 to claim his third Tour title. Ford, 33, and Corren, 34, both overcame younger Queenslanders to reach the final. The Englishman outlasted 21-year-old Nathan Stevenson, the fourth seed, in five games 13-11, 8-11, 11-9, 12-14, 11-4, while Corren downed 23-year-old No7 seed Luke Forster 11-8, 11-5, 11-6.
Zurich- England’s top seed Tom Richards beat seventh-seeded Mexican Jorge Isaac Baltazar Ferreira in the final of the inaugural Seegarten Vitis Open to win the $10,000 PSA World Tour squash title at Vitis Sports Center in Schlieren, near Zurich, in Switzerland. The 11-4, 11-1, 12-10 victory gives Richards, the 22-year-old world No34 from Surrey, his second PSA Tour title of year – and the third of his career.
