Last weekend a Vice President of the World Union of Karate-do Federations, Mr Ian Cuthbert came to Bangor and promoted the three main instructors up a level of Dan grade (Sam Lewis to 2nd Dan, Kevin Lewis to 3rd Dan and David Brashaw to 4th Dan). The instructors were more than surprised and delighted.
Sensei Cuthbert commented 'These three coaches more than deserve this honour. They have made so many positive differences to so many young people from the North Down and Ards areas and also to students across Northern Ireland. Over the last fifteen years they have given up vast amounts of their own personal time, providing additional training for local students to help them win at international level, and through this given Northern Ireland karate massive respect around the world. It is a pleasure to work with such dedicated coaches who always strive for the future of their students aiming to take them to a higher level'.
Also on hand to offer his congratulations, not to mention run an excellent training course with Sensei Cuthbert, was Ireland's double WUKF kumite world champion Gordon Smith.
