London Handball Development Officer Appointed

The EHA, Newham Borough Council and Leyton SCORE are pleased to announce the appointment of Ari Bekker as the London Handball Development Officer.
Ari started her three year contract on 1st March 2010 and will be primarily responsible for the development and implementation of an ambitious handball development programme aimed at increasing participation, creating opportunities for competition at all ages and groups, paying particular attention to building capacity and strengthening links between schools, the FE/HE sector and under-represented groups. Developing leadership and a volunteer workforce will also be a key responsibility in sustaining handball beyond 2012. The post will provide a big boost to the development of handball not only in the five London Borough Olympic Boroughs but across London and South East.
Ari, who has already established herself in the English women’s league, grew up with handball in Hungary and has 23 years experience as a player. She gained a qualification in Handball Coaching at the Hungarian Sport University.
Ari moved to England 8 years ago and after spells with Great Dane, Squirrels HC and Cambridge has finally (?) settling at Olympia. So, she has certainly built a vast list of contacts for her job!
In addition to playing Ari has been working with young people for the last 10 years.  The the last 3 years Ari has been developing handball as part of the Leyton Orient Community Sport Programme in London where she has seen the interest grow massively, ‘the feedback and interest from the children and in the sport has been extremely positive and I feel it can be great success with hard work and enthusiasm in developing Handball further. I look forward to work more closely with Newham Sports Activity Team and England Handball.’
