Davenport nets another hat-trick to secure win

10th March 2010

Tim Davenport netted his second hat-trick in successive games to help TeamBath Buccaneers men’s firsts to a 3-2 victory over Guildford.

Davenport followed up his hat-trick in the 3-0 win at Havant with another three goals at home to Guildford on Saturday to take his Conference West tally for the season to 25.

Team Bath took the lead inside 20 minutes when Davenport scored from a set piece after it took a deflection off a luckless Guildford defender.

Guildford replied quickly from a scrambled goal mouth when the ball would fall kindly to Guildford’s William Blockley and leave Chris Day, who was covering an injured James Bailey, stranded.  Day would prove his place throughout this match by making critical saves for Bath.

Davenport scored the goal of the game on 25 minutes after a fast clearance. He cleverly lifted the ball over Guildford keeper, Simon Mason to give TeamBath a 2-1 lead at the interval.

Guildford came out fighting looking to score an Alan Henderson equaliser after the break. But Davenport scored his second set piece goal of the game with 15 minutes to go by flicking the ball strongly past Mason to complete his hat-trick and secure another win for Buccs.

Buccs, who now can’t be caught at the top of Conference West, travel to the University of Birmingham on Sunday.

There was also a good win at the weekend for TeamBath Buccs women’s firsts. They beat third place Buckingham 1-0 away in Conference West courtesy of a Mary Douglas goal just after the break.

Buccs, who are seventh in the table, host Staines in a 1.30pm start at the Sports Training Village on Saturday.
