Englands' compounders strike Delhi gold

England has won gold medals in both the mens' and women's compound tournaments, at the Commonwealth Games Test Event in Delhi. And there is the prospect of more medals to come later in the day for England, Wales and Scotland in the recurve tournaments.

The women's trio of Andrea Gales, Nichola Simpson and Nicky Hunt took the top prize in their event following a semi-final victory over Malysia, and then defeating host nation India in the final. After finishing all square at 222 points each, the British girls took the top prize following 30-25 victory in a three arrow shoot-off.

Scotland missed out on a medal when Claudine Jennings, Susan Maitland and Tracey McGowan were beaten by Malaysia in the bronze medal match.

In the men's compound tournament, the English team of James Forbes, James Bingham and Mark Franklin also ended the hopes of the host nation, this time beating the Indians in the semi-finals.

Wales also reached the last four, losing to Malaysia, with England then beating the Malaysians 232-229 in the final. The Welsh trio of Malcolm Rees, Andrew Rose and Roger Winnett then missed out on the bronze when they were beaten by India.

In the recurve tournaments, Wales - Helen Bland, Rebecca Dawson and Gemma Underwood - are through to the semi-finals of the women's event, and face Malaysia. In the men's tournament, England and Scotland could meet in the final.

Scotland's trio of Simon Needham, Mark Forrester and James Laing face Malaysia, while England - Rob Hallworth, Jon Shales and Lee Williams - take on India.
