Ed called up by England

26th January 2011

A talented young TeamBath Academy footballer has been selected for the England Schools under-18 squad.

Eighteen-year-old goalkeeper Ed Baldy is one of two keepers named in England’s 18-strong squad.

Baldy has been at the TeamBath Academy for the last 18 months, where he combines training at the University of Bath with studying at Wiltshire College. He also plays for Bradford Town FC.

Among fixtures in 2011 the England squad will contest the Centenary Shield against Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Some of those fixtures will televised live on Sky Sports.

Matt Hale, head of football at the University of Bath, said: “Ed is the first TeamBath Academy player to be selected for an England team, so that’s a real achievement.

“He is a big lad and a real presence in the penalty area, he commands the area really well,” he added. “He’s made a lot of progress in the 18 months he’s been with us.“
