On Wednesday 2nd November 2011 Reading RFC was host to 6 school and over 70 girls for the first girls U15s Sevens festival organised in Berkshire. The schools in attendance were Park house, Beechwood, St Bartholomew’s, Blessed Hugh Faringdon, The Downs and Brakenhale.
There were a wide variety of talents at the festival and along with the support of the RFU, the RFUW, Reading RFC, girls from The Reading University Women’s Rugby Team as well as all the Refs and teachers involved the afternoon was a great success.
The girls played in a league style competition taking part  in five 7 minute matches. All matches were very great to watch with a high level of enjoyment  and sportsmanship. All girls taking part received goodies from the RFUW and a number of them stayed afterwards to speak with Dave Edwards the Representative for Women and Girls Rugby in Berkshire which will hopefully lead to them starting to play outside of school.

At the end of the day, there can be only one Winner and Brakenhale School stormed to victory after winning all of their matches. We hope to run the same event next year with more schools involved and would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who made the day the success it was. Lastly, big congratulations to all the girls who took part.
