Trio to contest IPC European Championships

24th April 2012

Three University of Bath-based athletes have been named in the GB team to compete at the International Paralympic Committee European Athletics Championships in June.

Paul Blake, Katrina Hart and Ben Rushgrove feature in a 20-strong team for the championships, which take place in Stadskanaal, the Netherlands from 24 to 28 June.

The championships will be a major stepping stone ahead of the London 2012 Paralympic Games

Blake, Hart and Rushgrove are all coached at the University of Bath by Rob Ellchuk.

Blake will run the T36 400m and 800m  at the Europeans – he won gold at last year’s World Championships in New Zealand over the shorter distance and silver over the longer.

Hart runs the T37 100m and 200m at Stadskanaal. The University of Bath Sports Performance graduate is reigning Commonwealth champion for the T37 100m and reigning World champion in the T37 200m. She made her senior GB debut at the last European Championships in Finland in 2005, winning 100m bronze. She was the youngest member of the GB team at the time aged just 15.

Rushgrove, also a University of Bath graduate, runs the T36 100m and 200m. He took silver in the 100m at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games and again at last year’s World Championships.
