Two More Medals for In-Form Junior Divers

11th October 2012

Jack Laugher won his third medal from three events at the Junior World Diving Championships in Adelaide, adding Group A 1m Springboard silver to his 3m Springboard and 3m Synchro golds.
The 17-year old, who won the 1m and 3m Springboard double in the Group B Age Group two years ago, faced tough competition from China’s Peng Jianfeng who took the early lead and remained just five points ahead of Laugher at the end of round three.
Both divers missed their fourth dives but a great final dive from Laugher secured the silver medal with a score of 541.55. Peng finished on 551.40 and USA’s Michael Hixon took bronze with 531.55.
The City of Leeds pairing of Hannah Starling and Alicia Blagg also won silver in the girls 3m Synchro, coming back strongly in the final round after an earlier missed dive.
After the penultimate round the girls were sitting in fifth place with 10 points separating second to sixth places.  Their final dive was enough to put them ahead of their rivals and they took silver with 287.70 points.
China’s Zheng Qulin and Liu Jiao were dominant in taking gold with 287.70 while Russia’s Elena Chernykh and Ekaterina Ukolova won bronze with 271.20
The silver was the second medal for Starling in 24 hours after she won 3m Springboard bronze yesterday.
In the Boys Group B Platform Ross Haslam improved on his prelim ranking to finish fourth with a score of 440.75 while British teammate Matty Lee was seventh on 415.90.
