Euro Athletics Junior Champs Flash Quote - Men's 400mH
21st July 2013Jacob Paul – European Junior 400mH Bronze Medallist – 50.71
I came in ranked third behind the two world leading Russian’,s but there was a big gap of almost two seconds, so I knew coming into it that it was going to be a fight for the bronze medal as there was a few of us closely ranked in the 51 second region.
To come out here and run three big PB’s means I can’t really complain. I’ve done the best I can do, and I’ve come out with a bronze medal, which I came here to do – it’s just a shame I couldn’t hold off the Russian’s to help us in the medal table, but I’ve done my best.
I watched the two Russian’s in the semi’s where they ran 50.12 and 50.66, so I knew if I was going to be in contention I’d have to go out a lot harder and hope to finish the same as I did, but maybe the rounds took it out of me. Three 400m hurdles race in three days is tough; they call it the man killer so it’s pretty intense.
British 400m hurdling is definitely looking up. The senior athletes are performing so well at the moment, which makes it such a competitive event, so it’s just a case of keeping going and trying to catch up to them really.
