23rd August 2013

Britain’s elite junior swimmers have landed and are making their final preparations for the World Junior Swimming Championships in Dubai which starts on Monday (26th August).

Millfield’s James Guy will be leading the medal charge after impressing at his debut senior international, the World Championships in Barcelona, last month. Also in the squad is City of Sheffield’s

Matthew Johnson, the three-time European Junior gold medallist who will be looking to improve on his fifth place finishes from the 2011 World Junior Champs.

Molly Renshaw (Derventio) who claimed a European Junior Championships gold in 2012, is also on the team which includes 11 European Junior medallists in total.

Mark Perry, Team Leader for the competition said: “We have a small but very talented team with the majority of them European Junior medallists who will be looking to step up onto a global stage.

“Some of the team have also competed at World Junior level before and they will be looking to improve on their previous performances and swim fast in Dubai.”

Head Coach Graeme Antwhistle, from the British Gas Bath ITC, said: “We have a small, but focused team with lots of talent.
“This competition will give them the opportunity for fast racing at the end of a tough season against the best swimmers in the world in their age group.
“For those who have already competed at major meets such as the World Championships and the European Junior Champs, this will be their first double taper experience.
“But I have no doubt that the whole team will be up for the competition and will step up and race hard.”
