GB & NI Team selected for Combined Events Indoor Match

8th January 2014

A 20-strong GB & NI team has been selected for the Combined Events International Indoor Match in Sheffield on 25-26 January. The British team will face the Czech Republic, France, the Netherlands and Spain in the senior events with the junior and under 23 teams going up against Spain and France.

Ashley Bryant (coach: Ian Grant), who was selected for the decathlon at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow last August, will lead the GB & NI senior men’s team in Sheffield. Bryant will be joined in an impressive line-up by John Lane (Toni Minichiello), who was second in the British decathlon rankings in 2013.

Also in the senior men’s team is Richard Reeks (Grant), who was an impressive winner of the heptathlon at the England and Wales Combined Events Championships with a score of 5734 in Sheffield last weekend, and Ben Gregory (Julie Hollman), the runner-up from that event.

The GB & NI senior women’s team is similarly strong and contains the in-form Karla Drew (Minichiello), who retained her national indoor title last weekend and recorded personal bests in the high jump and long jump in the process.

2010 Commonwealth Games heptathlon bronze medallist Grace Clements (Ian Grant) will join Drew in the senior women’s team, along with her training partner Moe Sasegbon (Julie Hollman) and Jo Rowland (Grant), who both set personal bests last weekend.

The highlight of the junior teams is talented 16 year old Morgan Lake (Eldon Lake), who continues to impress and set the second highest pentathlon score ever recorded by a British junior with a score of 4146 in Sheffield last weekend.
