Mears and Laugher secure first world silver

7th June 2014

Chris Mears and Jack Laugher won their first FINA/NVC Diving World Series silver medal with another consistent performance in Mexico.

The British pair have competed in the final four legs of the Series and won two bronze and one silver medal proving their potential for the future.

Mears and Laugher took on a strong Chinese pair and world bronze medallists from Mexico but looked confident throughout the final.

They secured a score of 100 points for their required dives to lie in fourth place as the final entered the optional rounds.

At the half way point the pair were still outside of the medals but their Inward 3 ½ Somersaults tucked moved them up to third.

The pair saved their best for last though and with a score of 86.64 for their Front 4 ½ Somersaults tucked they secured their first World Series silver medal with 423.78 points.

In the women’s 10m Synchro Sarah Barrow and Tonia Couch finished just outside of the medals in fourth place with a score of 314.10 points.
