First European gold medal for Carlin
Jazz Carlin scored her first individual European medal with gold in the 800m Freestyle as she dominated the second half of the race at the European Championships in Berlin.
For the start, Carlin was level with Spain’s Mireira Belmonte Garcia but kept herself within contention until the Brit made her move for the title.
With just 300m left Carlin took the lead and showed her strength to win the gold medal.
She finished in a new personal best time, new Welsh record and new European Championship record of 8:15.54.
Belmonte won the silver and Boglarka Kapas (Hungary) won the bronze.
Aimee Willmott backed up her bronze in the 400m Individual Medley with silver in a toughly fought out 200m Individual Medley.
Katinka Hosszu (Hungary) had the gold medal secured at the 100m mark but Willmott fought back from fifth place to claim the silver.
She touched in 2:11.44 to secure her second medal of the competition.
Ross Murdoch looked impressive in the 200m Breaststroke after coming from third place to take the silver.
Murdoch took on Marco Koch, who was competing in front of his home crowd, and fought him hard for the gold in the last 50m.
He touched just a whisker behind Koch to take his second silver medal. The Brit touched in 2:07.77 while team mate Andrew Willis finished in fourth in 2:09.19.
Georgia Davies won her first medal of the competition with bronze in the 100m Backstroke after bringing the race home strong in the final 50m.
She touched in 59. 74 to take the third place spot after Katinka Hosszu and Mie Nielsen (Denmark) won joint gold.
Chris Walker-Hebborn added bronze to his two gold medals at this European Championships after finishing in third place in the 50m Backstroke.
He came from behind to touch in third and win bronze in 25.00.
The women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay saw Rebecca Turner, Jazz Carlin, Shauna Lee and Aimee Willmott finish in sixth place in 7:57.25.
Jemma Lowe secured her place in the 200m Butterfly final after a promising swim in this evening’s semi final. Molly Renshaw also progressed through to the final of the 200m Breaststroke after finishing in sixth place overall after the semi finals
