Bremont takes America’s Cup timing role
Watch manufacturer Bremont has been announced as the new official timing partner of the America’s Cup and the sailing event’s defending champion, Oracle Team USA.
As part of the deal, which will see Bremont’s logo adorn the Oracle catamarans, the company will also produce a new series of timepieces to mark the partnership.
Russell Coutts, America's Cup event authority director, said “Bremont partnering with the America’s Cup and Oracle Team USA is hugely exciting because we love what they have done as a business, their products and what the brand stands for. We wanted to work closely with a company that brings passion and expertise to engineering expertise to create world class products.”
Bremont co-founder Nick English added: “As with all our partners we will look to learn from them and work closely on a technical level but we also intend to explore the Cup's rich history.”
Oracle Team USA are the current defending champions of the oldest trophy in international sport, thanks largely to Sir Ben Ainslie’s famous heroics in 2013.
The decorated sailor now has his sights set on winning the competition, first staged off the Isle of Wight in 1851, as part of Ben Ainslie Racing.
The global America’s Cup World Series begins in July 2015 in Portsmouth, followed by the America’s Cup qualifiers and play-offs leading up to the 2017 final in Bermuda.
